A few good runs

A nice video compilation of some of the best club rides..

Daisybank dig weekender 2012

Big thanks to all who turned up to repair Daisybank dirt jumps this weekend. It was an epic couple of days of dirt moving and packing in. I still cannot quite believe how much we achieved and how good the summer is going to be riding up there.

Buckholt Wood riding agreement

Last Friday (March 23rd) representatives from Cheltenham & County CC and Bigfoot MBC reached what we considered as a workable riding agreement with Natural England and the forestry manager

Cheltenham & County and Bigfoot MBC hit Ribbesford

With our two clubs having recently collaborated in trying to negotiate the return of mountain biking to Buckholt Woods we furthered this partnership with a superb gravity riding day at the downhill trails near to Ribbesford

The club run an active schedule of mountain bike rides. Regular events include:

Tuesday evening XC rides (during summer time)
Thursday Corrective skills sessions and DH
Saturday morning XC rides
Monthly XC ride in the Forest of Dean
Trail building sessions at Bushcombe (during winter time)

We also go on many day/ weekend trips, details of these can be found at under GravityAssistedTherapy

The Corrective are committed to improving biking facilities in the Cheltenham area. We have been involved in a host of projects independently and associated with other groups.
Bushcombe DH
This is TheCorrectives own venue on over 100 acres of private land. We have club access to the land on agreement with the landowner and will be holding public events in the future.
The land has over 100m of drop and is a mixture of woodland and scrub, perfect for downhill tracks. The project started in 2009 and we are currently working on the second track which should be over 750m long.
Trail building sessions are held regularly over winter, you can find out about these on this site and on our Facebook Group.
Bishop Cleeve BMX track
In 2009 Bishop Cleeve Parish Council ran a competition with local schools to design a beginner BMX track. Following this competition the council funded the construction of  the track. The corrective were involved in the construction and provided many volunteer hours in finishing and shaping the track.
Leckhampton Hill mountain bike trails
This land is owned and managed by Cheltenham Bough Council, some areas are a designated Site of Special and Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is both geologically and archeologically important for its Limestone exposures and quarrying history. The Council has duty to help maintain and preserve this status.
The Corrective maintain close relations with the council on any matter regarding bikes on the hill, to try and ensure mountain biking integrates harmoniously with the area. We have also had input into the Leckhampton Mountain Bike Leaflet.
Daisybank dirt jumps
Daisybank dirt jumps are again on land owned by Cheltenham Bough Council. In 2007 the venue was flattened over safety concerns, in the long term this has worked in our advantage. The Council has invested back into the site and we now have an excellent area for beginners to more advanced dirt jumpers.
As with all dirt jump sites it is continious development, if you wish to get involved in digging Contact Us (even if you are not a club member). The council usually approve all work, but any unauthorised digging will be removed.
Friends of Leckhampton Hill and Charlton Kings Common (FOLK)
FOLK are a conservation organisation that helps manage Leckhampton Hill and Charlton Kings Common.
A Corrective member is represented on FOLK’s Executive Committee and assists with resolving issues that may arise from mountain biking. TheCorrective members also assist FOLK with work parties, especially in the winter months when there are scrub clearance requirements.

TheCorrective represents more a state of mind than a specific group of mountain bike riders. We are a division of  Cheltenham and County Cycling Club (CC-CC) who want to take biking a bit further than the regular cross country rides. We are involved in  Technical Cross Country, Downhill, Dirt Jump and BMX riding, but primarily we are about pushing personal limits, not necessarily ultimate limits. It’s all about the grin factor.

“The greatest risk in life is to risk nothing at all…”

Located in the Cheltenham area, Gloucestershire, we regularly ride local trails but we have a very active schedule riding and racing all over the country. See the Gravity Assisted Therapy page for details of the latest activities.

One of the greatest satisfactions in biking is to ride something that you have built. From a little wooden kicker to a new downhill track. The corrective is committed to improving biking facilities in the Gloucestershire area. We have been involved in many projects and have even come to an agreement with a local landowner so we can build on his hill. Have a look at the Venues page for all the details.

TheCorrective welcomes riders who are not currently CC-CC members. We invite anyone to our dig days and you are entitled to come riding with us a few times before joining.

Real Ale

For post ride refuelling, Real Ales are our tipple of choice in TheCorrective.

Our establishment of choice is the Jolly Brewmaster public house, located in Painswick Road, Cheltenham. A superb pub offering a good range of Real Ales and Ciders on tap. We also stop at fine pubs on our Tuesday evening cross country rides between April and October, a sure welcome relief after a hard slog through the Cotswolds on warm evenings.

Thursday nights are our regular beer night, and this is sometimes directly after rides on Leckhampton Hill, but we gather there each week whatever is going on. The JBM has a small garden that is excellent for relaxing in after summer blasts.
